1918 dated photo postcard with original two place Iron Cross medal bar.
Fantastic clear photo postcard of a soldier named Hans Gründer. Hans is shown seated wearing an immaculate uniform with belt and buckle. Pinned to his chest is a two place medal bar comprising a Friedrich-August medal and a 1914 EKII. The photo is signed Hans Gründer Weihnacht 1918 (Christmas 1918).
Dresden photographers stamp to reverse.
Some postwar writing also on reverse. click on picture for more detail.
Supplied with Gründers original medal bar that is shown in the photo! Now showing its age after 105 years but still a nice looking bar. The bronze Friedrich-August medal is in excellent condition although the ribbon has a small tear and is worn. The EKII is marked KO (Klein und Quenzer, Oberstein). In good condition with minor wear. Government standard unmarked 938 silver frame and a black finished magnetic iron core. The ribbon is worn and slightly grubby.
Backed in faded purple cloth.
Hinge, pin and catch in perfect working order.
The photo is so clear it is possible to see the core details of the Iron Cross and they match the EK on the medal bar perfectly.
Absolutely superb set.
