Italian Regia Aeronautica officer grouping
Pre War dated Regia Aeronautica officer ID book named to Tenente (Lieutenant) later Capitano (Captain) Giovanni Alfieri. The outer cover of the ID book is made from airforce blue Italian leather and is in excellent condition. The inside cover has a full page size photo of Alfieri in Airforce uniform with his signature at the bottom.
The following pages show name, rank, issuing date, the signature of the authorising General and various promotions. The pages are water marked with the Fasces and the Fascist pilot wings.
The ID book is housed in it's original protective slip case made from stiff cardboard and covered in a water resistant ducked material.
The ID book came with a silver plated brass plaque which I'm assuming is a KIA commemorative piece, maybe it was fixed to a wall of honour in the officers mess?
The plaque has the name Licio and the dates 6 Giugno 1918 - 18 Giugno 1940 crisply engraved and then blackened to make them stand out (Giugno =June). Affixed separately to the plaque is a beautiful full size rendition of the Fascist pilot wing which I believe was used from 1935 to 1943. Superb crisp detail and quality.
This grouping needs further research as the Regia Aeronautica was active in the Battle of France in June 1940 so maybe it would be possible to find out who Licio was and indeed if he was KIA.
Overall a fantastic small Italian Airforce grouping and an excellent research project.
