1939 Iron Cross Second Class stamped 138 in unusual EKI case converted to an EKII case.

Excellent condition 1939 EKII by Julius Maurer and stamped 138 on the ribbon ring. Magnetic iron core with silver plated neusilber frame, good finish to Cross.
The Cross is housed in an unusual case. It originally started life as an Iron Cross First Class case but for reasons unknown it has been converted to store an EKII.
The original base is still in place but has been completely covered over with off white artificial velvet (the same material that is used in First Class cases). The slot for the EKI pin can be seen when held up to light.
The reverse of the base has had a WWII German newspaper cutting glued over to I presume neaten it up.
Complete with original ribbon.
Very unusual cased set, definitely something for an Iron Cross collector who likes oddities.
